I've reached my fundraising goal! A huge THANK YOU to all who
helped! But don't worry, if you haven't donated yet, there's
still time - and all of the money I collect now will go 100% to
helping to find a cure for blood cancers. (26% of the $3400 was
for overhead costs related to the marathon).
On October 26, 2003, I'll be running the Marine
Corps Marathon in Washington, DC to raise money for the Leukemia
and Lymphoma Society. My goal is to raise at least $3,400 for
the charity. Your help would be greatly appreciated!
I have joined the Leukemia and Lymphoma Societys Team
in Training (TNT) program in an effort to raise $3,400 while
training to run 26.2 miles.
I was inspired to run for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by
three very special people, my cousin Karen Favret, Caitlin Stevens,
and Samantha Bertacci.
Karen was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on July 22, 1998.
She died eleven weeks later on October 9. She was only 54 years
old. Karen was a vibrant, intelligent, and funny woman who was loved
by all who met her. She left behind a husband of 32 years, two children
and two baby granddaughters. Karen was deeply spiritual and loved
her Catholic faith. She was, in the words of her daughter, an awesome
example to her two children of what a loving wife and mother is.
Caitlin was more fortunate. The daughter of my friend Paula, this
spunky little girl was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia when
she was only eighteen months old. She is now in remission, but will
have to be tested twice a year until she is fifteen.
Samantha is our Team in Training Honored Hero. She is a twelve
year old who lives in Violet, Louisiana with her parents and two
sisters. She was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia in January
1996. After a lot of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant,
this brave little girl is in remission. Samantha enjoys karate,
Harry Potter books, catachism and being an altar server.
I have created this website to pay tribute to these three very
special people, and I hope that you will be inspired to give
generously to this cause.
